Dusk
Installation

Dusk is part of an ongoing exploration of the relationship between contemporary art making practices and the historical tradition of romantic landscape painting. The video suggests an expansive desert twilight landscape, in reference to the tradition of romantic landscape paintings of pastoral scenes showcasing the sublime experience of nature. The piece itself is constructed from dozens if still images taken in urban Seattle, and the audio track constructed in a studio in Los Angeles two years later.

Dusk addresses the notion that we need to experience things much greater than ourselves, to encounter something of vast magnitude, while simultaneously allowing the constructed nature of these experiences, and perhaps the motivating desire itself, to be transparent.
